Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about AeroCopilot's AI copilot, pricing, data sources, study tools, and compliance tracking.
Getting Started
What is AeroCopilot?
AeroCopilot is an AI copilot platform for pilots that decodes and consolidates data from 61 official sources including FAA, NOAA, NTSB, and more. It combines intelligent briefings, automated risk assessment, study tools, and compliance tracking in one web-first platform.
Do I need to install an app?
No. AeroCopilot is web-first and works on any device with a modern browser. No app store download required -- just open your browser on an iPad, iPhone, Android phone, or laptop and sign in.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. AeroCopilot is free forever with 5 AI chats per day, VFR-IMC safety alerts, and access to core safety features. No credit card required to get started.
How is AeroCopilot different from ForeFlight?
AeroCopilot combines an AI copilot, study tools, compliance tracking, and FRAT risk assessment in one subscription. Instead of just charts and weather, you get an intelligent assistant that can decode METARs, brief flights, simulate oral exams, track maintenance, and monitor your currency -- all AI-powered.
What devices does AeroCopilot work on?
Any device with a modern browser: iPad, iPhone, Android phones and tablets, laptops, and desktops. AeroCopilot is designed to be responsive and works seamlessly across all screen sizes.
AI Copilot
What can the AI copilot do?
The AI copilot can decode METARs and TAFs in plain English, brief flights with weather and NOTAMs, analyze FAA weather cameras, check your compliance status, answer FAR/AIM questions, simulate DPE oral exams, and help with flight planning -- all using data from 61 official sources.
Does the AI make flight decisions for me?
No. The AI provides information, decoded data, and relevant factors for your consideration. The pilot in command always makes the final go/no-go decision per 14 CFR 91.3. AeroCopilot is an advisory tool, not a decision-maker.
How accurate is the AI?
The AI decodes data directly from official FAA and NOAA sources, ensuring accuracy at the data level. AI interpretations are clearly labeled as advisory. We always recommend verifying critical flight information with an official briefing via 1-800-WX-BRIEF.
What AI models do you use?
We use advanced language models optimized for aviation knowledge and data interpretation. Paying subscribers get priority AI responses with faster processing and higher daily limits.
Can I use the AI copilot in flight?
Yes, the AI copilot works on any device with an internet connection. For safety, we recommend completing your full briefing on the ground before departure. In-flight queries work well for quick questions and updated weather checks.
Data & Safety
Where does your data come from?
We aggregate data from 61 official sources: FAA (NASR, NMS, CIFP, d-TPP), NOAA (Aviation Weather Center, Space Weather Prediction Center, NWS, HMS), NTSB accident database, EPA air quality, NDBC marine weather, and more. Every data point is traceable to its official source.
How current is the weather data?
METARs sync every 5 minutes. TAFs update every 15 minutes. NOTAMs refresh every 15 minutes. Aeronautical charts update on the standard 28-day or 56-day AIRAC cycle. Weather camera images refresh continuously.
Is AeroCopilot FAA-approved?
AeroCopilot is an advisory information tool, not an FAA-certified Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). It is designed to supplement, not replace, official sources. Always verify critical flight information with official FAA and NOAA sources before flight.
Are safety features really free?
Yes. The VFR-into-IMC predictor and scud running alerts are free on every tier, including the Free plan. We believe safety tools should never be behind a paywall.
Do you track 3,000+ weather cameras?
Yes. We integrate with 926 FAA weather camera sites encompassing over 3,000 individual cameras across the United States. The AI can analyze camera images to help you assess real-time visibility and weather conditions.

Does the AI simulate an oral exam?
Yes. The AI DPE mode simulates a realistic checkride oral exam across all ACS (Airman Certification Standards) areas. It asks progressively challenging questions, provides feedback, and identifies knowledge gaps.
Can I use AeroCopilot for my BFR?
Yes. Our study tools and AI CFI mode are ideal for biennial flight review preparation. Review regulations, practice scenarios, and test your knowledge across all required areas before meeting with your instructor.
Do you have structured learning paths?
Yes. We offer 137 structured learning modules across Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, and Commercial certificate paths. Each module builds on previous knowledge with progressive difficulty.
Is there a knowledge map?
Yes. The visual ACS task coverage map shows your mastery level across every area of operation for each certificate. See at a glance which topics you have mastered, which you are learning, and which are weak areas needing review.
Aircraft & Compliance
Can I track my aircraft maintenance?
Yes. Track annual inspections, 100-hour inspections, transponder checks, altimeter/static system tests, ELT inspections, and more. AeroCopilot sends countdown alerts as inspection deadlines approach.
